Finding: The experiments examined differences in bacterial conversion of daidzein to equol.
Limitations: Laboratory model and small selected sample; does not measure symptom improvement or establish a population percentage.

Duration: 12-week intervention
Finding: A natural S-equol preparation providing 10 mg/day showed a greater reduction in hot-flash frequency than placebo.
Limitations: The tested SE5-OH preparation differs from our synthetic S-equol plus Genistein formula. This is not a DR.MORGAN finished-product trial. Population, attrition and duration limit generalization.
Quality assessment: Primary methods, results and disclosures inspected; no formal overall risk-of-bias rating assigned.
Funding / conflicts: Otsuka supplied the preparation and funding; two authors reported consulting fees from Otsuka.
